Notable Authors on how the book impacted thier lives

Through my experiences in the Nazi concentration camps I've learned a fundamental truth: no matter the negativity that surrounds us, we maintain the ability to stir our inner self towards a positive life. The Rebbe taught thousands of people the practical tools for how to attain inner peace and happiness. His powerful guidance, related beautifully in this book, is sure to enrich the emotional life of all who read it.

Dr. Edith Eva Eger

Holocaust survivor, clinical psychologist, and bestselling author of 'The Choice'

The Rebbe recognized years ago what is now a whole new path in the study of neuro-science: living with a higher consciousness positively transforms our minds and insulates us against depression, addiction and many other mental health concerns. This book will skilfully teach you how to apply his deep wisdom to live a truly awakened life, filled with joy, healing and fulfillment.

Dr. Lisa Miller

Professor of Psychology at Columbia University and bestselling author of ‘The Awakened Brain.’

This is a book for our times and for all people who seriously seek to achieve spiritual clarity, emotional benefit, and improved interpersonal relationships. I recommend the book heartily and guarantee that the reader will agree with my assessment that, as its title suggests, these are “letters for life”.

Rabbi Dr. Tzvi Hirsch Weinreb

Executive Vice President Emeritus of the Orthodox Union Editor-in-Chief of the Koren Talmud Bavli, PhD and world expert in Psychology

Letters for Life is an extremely well researched compendium of profound insights and clear guidance. Reb Levi Shmotkin demonstrates a mastery of the wealth of letters sent by the Rebbe of Lubavitch, cataloging them into themes and concepts which allow the reader to be immersed in the perceptive wisdom of Toras HaNefesh through the lens of Chabad Chassidus. The volume includes much pure pragmatic instruction for improving one’s personal and interpersonal functioning, as well as boosting one’s avodas HaShem. I found Letters for Life inspiring and illuminating.

Rabbi Dr. Dovid Fox

Despite the daunting task of distilling the Rebbe’s counsel, Letters for Life is a wonderful and enjoyable read. Twelve key themes are brought to life with stories and advice from the letters. The reader will acquire insight and tools for the challenges we all face in our lives. It can be dipped into for a quick boost, or studied in depth and at length as a source of ideas to reshape one’s thinking. It is sure to improve your life.

Dr. Kate Miriam Loewenthal

Emeritus Professor of Psychology, University of London Glyndwr University New York University in London

What a wonderful, beautiful book. The book lays out practical advice from the Rebbe, in words that are at the same time gentle and forceful. The concrete suggestions, demonstrated in actual real-life examples will be useful both to everyday people, as well as to professionals (teachers, rabbis, therapists…).

Dr. Edwin Susskind

Psychotherapist, PHD, Past president of the Psychological Association of Maryland

I'm enthusiastic about this project. I think the arrangement, the stories, and the brief explication all make for a compelling read. You do a good job of situating the rebbe's comments in such a way that it pierces through the difficulties the rebbe is dealing with. Part of that, of course, is the insightfulness of the rebbe himself, but part of that is the style and arrangement you have here--after all, the rebbe's voice is lost if not placed in the text just so.

Bentzion Katzir

Professor of Literature Oklahoma City University

In organizing the Rebbe's letters for this book as well as the insights into them, Levi Shmotkin manages to shine light on the vital importance of taking care of ourselves emotionally. That to be who we are meant to be and to bring forth that which is needed of us, we must be emotionally healthy and aligned with our Souls. The book is sitting in my psychotherapy office, I am enjoying reading through it, and have already shared some of its insights with others. May it inspire each and every one of us to look within and to find more of who we are meant to be for ourselves, our loved ones and for the world at large. And the strength to live it!

What readers are saying

Why readers love Letters for Life

I was in the elevator leaving lab and was going to respond that I will try to turn this around before the weekend. Before I committed , I wanted to see how long it was - and I was hooked! Couldn't put it down :) Maybe because it's an excellent topic - but the way you tell a story is just awesome!

Orrel Weitzman
Head of Research Lab on Cancer and Graduate Student at Yale University

I gave this book out at my daughter's wedding a few days ago. I didn’t imagine the response I would get. Guests have been reaching out to me about it ever since. Multiple people contacted me to find out if I had an extra copy. The way the Rebbe’s guidance is related in this book evidently talks to every human being's emotional experience.

Chanan Feldman

The response from my young professionals has been phenomenal. The rich ideas, stories and letters are presented in a way that addresses their real everyday struggles. This was the book I was waiting for—something that meets people where they are and connects them directly with the Rebbe’s transformative guidance

Rabbi Sholom Brook
Director, YJP Minneapolis

This book is clearly something different. The way it weaves together powerful stories, concise excerpts from letters, relatable experiences, and clear takeaways strikes a cord with everyone I've shared it with. I couldn’t recommend it more!

Rabbi Moshe Pinson
Brooklyn, NY

The chapters are fantastic, very inspiring and well written. Also very powerful to read about your own experience with the Rebbe's teachings. I definitely think these struggles are universal and that your book will be helpful to a lot of people.
